4 L's to Live By

Life in today's fast-paced world is filled with challenges and complexities. Navigating this chaos can often feel overwhelming, but having a clear game plan can provide the confidence and clarity needed to stay on course. I've found that four guiding principles—Love, Lifelong Learner, Live, and Lead—are crucial for living a life that honors God and impacts others positively.

Love God and Others

The foundation of a meaningful life begins with love. The two greatest commandments, as stated in Luke 10:25-28, are to love the Lord your God and to love others as yourself. This love is not merely an emotion but a commitment to prioritizing relationships, beginning with God. Just as in any relationship, loving God requires intentionality, time, and effort. It means putting Him first in our thoughts, decisions, and actions. By loving God wholeheartedly, we naturally extend that love to others, seeing them as God sees them—valuable, unique, and deserving of compassion.

Lifelong Learner

Being a lifelong learner is essential in a world that constantly evolves. Embracing a growth mindset means understanding that our abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. This mindset fosters a love for learning and resilience in the face of challenges, recognizing that every experience offers an opportunity to grow.

Learning all you can isn't just about acquiring knowledge—it's about cultivating a habit of curiosity and a willingness to expand your understanding continuously. Whether through books, conversations, or personal experiences, each moment offers a chance to grow. Adopting this perspective means that your current abilities or knowledge does not limit you; instead, you see each day as an opportunity to stretch beyond your comfort zone and gain new insights.

Live on Purpose

Time is one of the most precious resources we have, and we are called to redeem it because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16). Living on purpose means making the most of the time we've been given, whether in our work, relationships, or personal growth. It involves making intentional choices about how we spend our time, balancing family and work, relaxation and growth, and ensuring that our actions align with our values and goals. Living on purpose requires us to evaluate our priorities regularly, asking ourselves what will yield the greatest return on investment—not just financially, but spiritually and relationally.

Lead Others to Christ

As a Christ follower, my highest priority is to glorify God with my life and to lead others to know Jesus Christ. St. Francis Assisi: “Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words”. Effective leadership, especially in a Christian context, is rooted in love, listening, and learning. As the saying goes, "People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care." To lead others to Christ, we must first demonstrate genuine love and concern for them. This requires active listening, and understanding their needs, struggles, and perspectives. If we fail to listen and learn from those we lead, we risk becoming ineffective leaders who are out of touch with those we seek to guide. Over time, this disconnect can lead to a loss of influence and the ability to lead effectively.

In conclusion, these four principles—Love, Lifelong Learner, Live, and Lead—serve as a reliable guide through the complexities of life. By loving God and others, committing to lifelong learning, living intentionally, and leading with compassion and wisdom, we can navigate the chaos with clarity and purpose, all while honoring God and impacting the world around us.
