Recently a parent asked me to give his son life advice as he became a teenager and celebrated his thirteenth birthday. I compiled these life lessons found in God’s Word and applied by wise and successful leaders.
What life advice would you offer a thirteen year old student?
Love: Love the Lord you God with all your heart, soul and mind… love your neighbor as yourself – Matthew 22:36-39 | A love for God and others is the foundation of everything.
Selflessness: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, - Philippians 2:3 | It’s amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit. – Harry Truman
Teamwork: Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. – I Corinthians 12:12 | Together Everyone Achieves More
Golden Rule: Do to others, as you would have them do to you. – Luke 6:31 | You memorized it, now live it!
Protector: Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. – Psalms 82:3 | The duty of the strong is to protect the weak.
Excellence: make every effort to add to your faith excellence… - 2 Peter 1:5 | Excellence is making a habit of doing more than what is expected.
Effort: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart… - Colossians 3:23 | Most people miss opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and disguised as hard work. – Thomas Edison
Preparation: Run in such a way as to get the prize… - I Corinthians 9:24 | By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. – Benjamin Franklin
Integrity: Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ be ‘No.’ – Matthew 5:37 | Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Success without integrity is failure.
Can Do Mentality: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13 | Whether you think you can… or you think you can’t… You’re right! - Henry Ford
Respect: Show proper respect to everyone – I Peter 2:17 | This is the final test of a gentleman: his respect for those who can be of no possible value to him. - William Lyon Phelps
